Four new sector ETFs have been added to State Street’s Select Sector SPDR Trust: the State Street S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary Market Sector SPDR ETF (XLYM), Consumer Staples Market Sector SPDR ETF (XLPM), Energy Market Sector SPDR ETF (XLEM) and Technology Market Sector SPDR ETF (XLKM). NYSE Arca is the principal US listing exchange.

Filings and timing

The trust filed a post-effective amendment to its registration statement and registered the shares for exchange listing on Form 8-A on 9 October. The summary prospectus for XLPM is dated 13 October 2026. The registration statement shows total annual operating expenses of 0.12% for each of the four funds, and State Street’s US fund page for XLKM lists a gross expense ratio of 0.12%. The same page gives XLKM an inception date of 13 October and an NYSE Arca listing date of 14 October.

Index design

The XLPM summary prospectus says the fund tracks the S&P 500 Consumer Staples Sector Index, a market-capitalisation-weighted index of S&P 500 consumer staples companies, and the index rebalances quarterly. The registration statement names the S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Information Technology Sector Indices for the other three funds. The “Market Sector” name sets the range apart from the trust’s existing Select Sector SPDR funds.

The two ranges are linked. According to the registration statement, each new fund may invest in the matching Select Sector SPDR ETF, in stocks in its index or in derivatives, and gives priority to the existing ETF. The XLPM summary prospectus says its index and the Consumer Staples Select Sector Index have the same constituents but may weight them differently. The Select Sector index uses a modified market-capitalisation method, which can adjust large single-stock weights to meet US tax rules for funds.

Early assets

State Street’s fund page reported assets under management of about $0.48m for XLKM as of 29 October, roughly two weeks after the prospectus date.

Why it matters

The launch gives the issuer a second set of S&P 500 sector exposures under the same trust. According to the filings, the difference lies in weighting: the new indices are market-capitalisation weighted, whereas the Select Sector indices can modify single-stock weights.
